A Note From Our Pastor – 01/12/12

Dear Church Family,
Over nine years ago, Kim and I felt the call of God to come serve at Bradfordville. Major decisions in life are never easy, but we felt a real peace about God’s direction. In the ensuing years there has been much joy and meaning in seeing God lead and bless this fellowship. We have also known disappointment and discouragement as we have faced difficult challenges and adversity.

There have been agonizing times when I have realized my inadequacy as your shepherd. I ache over the valleys we have experienced. At the same time, I have watched God do amazing things in your lives and in mine. I thrill at moments of life change when hearts have been made tender and eternal destinies have been secured. There has been far more joy than heartache.

God is not finished at Bradfordville. The church is poised for a glorious future. With so many wonderful people dedicated to seeing this fellowship reach its redemptive and serving potential, we are convinced that BFBC’s brightest days are before her.

In over 36 years of ministry, I have had the privilege of serving six congregations, two of them in a senior pastor role. Thank you for the faith and trust you have placed in me. The office of pastor is never filled by perfect persons, and you know I am far from perfect.

Over the past several months, we have been in conversation with a church that initiated a contact with us. This church played a significant role in my spiritual formation and call to ministry in my teens and early twenties. The congregation has extended a call to me to serve as senior pastor. After much prayer and consideration, I have accepted.

Saying goodbye to people you love is always difficult. I submit my resignation with a mixture of feeling but sense God’s leadership keenly. Our last Sunday at Bradfordville will be January 29. In the weeks ahead, I hope to be able to express my appreciation for what you have meant and will always mean to us.

Your staff and lay leadership will need your prayerful support and encouragement. The men and women who serve at this church are among the finest anywhere. Transitions are always challenging but I certainly believe that God’s grace and blessing will be sufficient in all our lives. Thank you for the privilege of being your pastor.

In Christ,
Mark Wilbanks
